AI perishable stock rotation: FIFO and FEFO

First in, first out works until a lot arrives with less shelf life than the one before it. Then first expired, first out (FEFO) matters more. Producepak tracks the age and dates of every lot, and Pak-Bot checks rotation at the moment stock moves.

FIFO or FEFO?

FIFO ships the oldest lot first. It suits produce with predictable shelf life from receipt, such as stored potatoes and onions.

FEFO ships the lot that will expire first, whatever its arrival date. It suits berries, leafy greens and herbs, where one delivery may have been harvested days before another.

Producepak records pack date, age and expiry information for each lot, so rotation rules can follow whichever your product needs. Your consultant configures this for your crops.

Case study: Berry and leafy greens wholesaler

Order entry cut from 8 hours a day to 2; dumped stock fell from 6% to 3.5%. With berries lasting days, FIFO checks at picking and expiry warnings cut dumped stock from 6% to 3.5%.

Rotation that runs on the floor

  • Suggested picks

Producepak can specify which inventory goes on an order using FIFO, and guide staff to its location.

  • Guardrail at the scan

A newer lot scanned while an older lot of the same product sits in the cool room is flagged before shipping.

  • Predictive warnings

Stock age plus current packing speed predicts which lots will not make it, so sales can offer them at a discount.

  • Batch inputs

When scheduling a batch, Producepak suggests inputs by FIFO and guides users to them.

Questions

Does Producepak support FEFO?

Producepak tracks the age and dates of every lot, and Pak-Bot warns which lots will expire first at your current packing rate. Your consultant sets rotation rules for each product.

What happens when someone breaks rotation?

Pak-Bot flags the scan so the older lot can be picked instead, before the pallet leaves.

Can rotation work with RFID?

Yes. With RFID, picking up a pallet selects it, and a mismatch with the current order raises an alert on the forklift tablet.
